Interview with Yemi Adebiyi, Lagos State chairman of ANA
After many years of bidding to host the yearly convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) by Lagos State Chapter, the hosting right was finally given to the state last year. So come October 25th to 27th, the 37th International Convention of ANA will be held in Lagos. It was a tough bidding for the state last year when the event took place in Makurdi, Benue State. There were other states that put up stiff c2ompetition against Lagos. But the national executive of the association felt it was now ripe for Lagos to have its way.
A lot of factors worked in favour of Lagos. Even though the fear of constant traffic in the metropolis constituted part of that fear, it was finally agreed that the whole programmes of the convention would be limited to the Ikeja area of the state in order to avoid hiccups in the movements of delegates and visitors. And to ensure that the event will be given its proper perspective, a captivating theme has been chosen to go with the status of the state and the mood of the people at the moment.
